Everything I know I learned from my mother. From an early age I remember my mom bringing home fabric samples and mulling over house plans. I would snatch, cut, sew, and hide with vigor as many swatches as I could get my hands on. I was possessed by the color, texture, patterns and styles. Chintz, brocade, damask, English Country feelings of grandeur lined the walls of my dollhouse and barn that my father crafted in the garage one Christmas for hours on end, it was beautiful.
I graduated with honors from the interior design program at Virginia Commonwealth University arts and design school and shortly after, got married to a military man, opened a store with a partner I’d just met on a design job and three months later Wild Orchid was born. Wild Orchid was a wildly successful home furnishings store where we sold beautifully upholstered and hard-good pieces mostly based out of vendors from the west coast, art, rugs, jewelry, clothing, the list goes on. It had a huge cult following that people are still talking about to this day. Shortly after the store took wings I learned I was pregnant and 9 months later gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Jack and then 22 months after that came George. I took the time to refocus as a mother.
After Wild Orchid I continued to design for clients who blessed me with the ability to explore further an their behalf living vicariously through and evolving a palette in many styles of design.
I got hooked on words and signs and repurposing old cabinet doors, the hunt for natural treasures and learned a great deal about toxins in our personal care products through Beautycounter and both became a side gig that I still enjoy. After a few major moves we ended up in a beautiful little mountain town called Hailey Idaho where we now reside with our two kids, our dog Roxy, our beloved cat Guinevere and our two chickens, Rose and Daisy.
Crown and Cottage is about getting back to me, going back to the vendors that I love, creating a lifestyle brand based on my many experiences along the way. This is just the beginning of the birth of Crown and Cottage. There are years of searching, shopping and creating ahead and I can’t wait to walk this journey with you!
My beautiful mother and inspiration for everything I do and everything I am.
